"There's a lot going on right now, but I do hope I stay with the Red Sox," Beltre said in Friday's Boston Globe. "I could make a deal right now if I wanted to, but I want to wait and make sure I make the right decision (Boston.com)."
I'm not buying it. I have heard from the beginning that Beltre would like to go back to the west coast. Rumors have it the Red Sox will go no more than four years, $52 million. That offer has already been beaten by the A's who offered him a five-year, $64-million offer. I just don't see Beltre taking a discount to stay in Boston.
And to be honest, I don't really want Beltre back. I know he is going get his money and then turn into a very average player. I have said from the beginning that I want the Sox to land a power hitting first baseman (Konerko, Gonzalez, Fielder, ect), because I feel the Sox really lack a hitter that pitcher will fear. They have basically been missing that since Manny left, so all and all I hope I'm right and Beltre takes off for Oakland.
